We are designing so many new websites here in the Niagara region, that it begs the question; “Is there really a recession going on?” This week alone, we are training 3 new clients on our CMSIntelligence. That's our intelligent content management system that you seen me write about in previous blog posts. If you asked me how we responded to this recession as opposed to the last recession, I have to admit it would be hard to keep a straight face. Though we haven't really suffered during this recession, I did take a few unnecessary precautions. The first was, I stepped out of the Honda Element which I really enjoyed driving and was really not bad on gas, to Nissan Cube. With the gas prices jumping at the beginning of the recession as well as wondering how the recession might affect a company like mine, my knee-jerk reaction was to try and save a couple of bucks here and there. I guess that almost sounds like a wise move. The second thing we did, was we went completely mobile as far as our telecommunications goes. Sure we made some other small changes that added up to a few dollars in saving on a monthly basis, but nothing in total added up to much of more the a slight budget slimming.
So why are so many companies coming to us to build websites these days? Are there really just so many new businesses being open up everywhere? Are new entrepreneurs coming out of the woodwork as they are forced to leave their jobs?
Well, if you ask me I think that business owners are just spending their money more wisely. With the cost associated to building websites these days combined with the terrifying reality that a recession is affecting our economy, business owners are being forced to use their money wisely. They seem to be looking for something to sustain their businesses with services that accommodates slimmer budgets, as well as powerful marketing strategies that generates revenues.
I guess that's where we come in. When we demonstrate what an evolving technology platform can do for an Internet marketing plan, it goes without saying, that it just makes sense. When business owners are faced with the high costs involved in building and maintaining a website over the period of 4 years, they will quite naturally do a little more research. Contrasting the usual costs, i.e. domain names, website hosting, and a huge upfront costs of building the website, to an all-inclusive product would leave most business owners with the obvious choice.
The days of hiring the guy who can slide by with FrontPage websites are not going to fool the seasoned business owner any longer. The old saying, "once bitten, twice shy" has more meaning now. They've learned what to look for in a web developer. But they've learned something else -- something that even most web developers have learned long, long ago. They've learned that business is changing.
Less is more, and these days, business owners are learning that the very face of business has taken an inventory of itself. "BIG" just doesn't cut it any more. A web design company may "appear" better off leasing the entire 4th floor of an office building, with 50 employees in downtown Toronto, but the strong business mind, won't be fooled by that either. Put nicely, they won't be impressed with BIG any longer.
Doncor.com is a small team of just 7 if you include the accountant. We're spread out over 2 continents and 7 cities. Our finances are not spent on flashy suits or impressive offices and we'll go anywhere to find the right man or woman for the job.
We're small, and we like it that way. We believe beyond the shadow of doubt, that our finances and efforts are better off for it. We're happy that way, and if you ask our customers, so are they. They trust that the price of their website is not hindered by the cost of our overhead.
You might say, that business owners have redefined what they want, and they've found it in us, a modern business with old fashion values. It's just a little more of a modest step in the right direction.
